Chemical Free zone...

I was making a new batch of toothpaste this past weekend and I realised that it's been a while since I gave up products, so thought I would recap...

I think the original decision was made when we were camping last summer and I read the Moneyless Manifesto by Mark Boyle.

The book gave me the nudge to just go all the way...cold turkey.

Now for me this was a very easy decision and one that I knew for sure I could pull off, because living like we were at the campsite was like home for me,

and I could see myself going without a lot of things, for a good long period of time!

Trying to get hubby on board was a whole other story...

Anyway on returning home I went through the cleaning products cupboard and the bathroom cupboards to see what we had and what we could get rid of.

To be honest we didn't have a whole lot, as I've always been quite green in that area, never needing much make-up, fancy smelling things or a different cleaning product for a million different things.

But I wanted to go NO products!

I then spent the night on Pinterest looking for natural, simple alternatives to the couple of things that I couldn't just go without, like toothpaste, razors, and mascara etc.

Some things were easy to just cut off because of the very obvious notion that buying chemical products to strip off your skins natural oils, only to buy more chemicals to artificially replace them, when sweat and dirt are water soluble, was a no-brainer.

Other things, like deciding to embark on the whole, water-only hair washing was a bit more daunting,

as I have very long thick hair - but was definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Other replacements like using products such as organic coconut oil or aloe straight from the plant instead of conventional moisturiser was not hard at all,

in fact it was liberating in so many ways,

and the best thing I could have done for my skin.

Here is a list of things I no longer buy.

SOAP - SHAMPOO - CONDITIONER - TOOTHPASTE - DEODORANT - BODY LOTION -MOISTURISER - FACE WASH - CONCEALER - FACE POWDER - MASCARA - RAZORS -DISHWASHER TABLETS - MULTIPURPOSE CLEANER - CLOTHS/SCOURERS -

WASHING POWDER

I really hope that these inspire you to make a change, or at least just show you how little you actually need,

and in turn how much of an impact you can make to our beautiful earth by embracing nature and natural beauty :)

And although it should be obvious, I would like to just point out that these will NOT be sacrifices.

These will be improvements to your hair, skin, teeth, and home, AND to things like your wallet, our environment, and even your laundry.
