Going Vegan...

It's been 53 days since I went VeGaN :) And I couldn't be happier!
Let me start at the beginning and let you know how this amazing journey started.
I want to keep this post short, so I'm just going to briefly cover what happened to help us make the switch.
About 3 months ago I decided that I wanted to stop taking the blood pressure medication that the GP had me on since I was pregnant with Maddie,
after reading terrible things about how it affects a persons liver and causes all sorts of other side effects (I'll go into more depth on that in another post).
So that lead me to searching the internet for research on how I could treat my blood pressure naturally through diet, exercise and other remedies. This then lead me to YouTube for recipes including more whole foods...and that is where things got interesting.
I got hooked on a couple of different channels all about eating whole foods,
and in their comments they had a link to the documentary called
I thought "Hey, what could it hurt to see what all the fuss is about?" and BAM!
life changer...
I can say with 100% confidence that once you watch any of the documentaries out their about veganism and animal agriculture you WILL question the way you eat and live your life,
it's as simple as that!
People think they know...but they DON'T.
There is only one way to find out the truth about what we have been blindly and ignorantly participating in,
and that is to do the research,
because trust me,
it will change your entire perspective,
on our planet,
your compassion,
your health and so many other enlightening things about
society, money, power etc.
Needless to say the next day I told hubby and Maddie that I watched this documentary and that I would like them to watch it too.
There wasn't an ounce of doubt in my mind about becoming vegan myself and I needed them to be in the know,
but didn't just want to say "You guys have to be vegan because of A, B and C."
I wanted them to see the truth for themselves and make up their own minds.
I think this is a very important step - because you could know all the facts,
but unless you have those images to back it up it's too easy to come up with excuses.
Anyway they both had the same reaction I had and were speechless after what they heard and saw.
From that moment on, their was no turning back for any of us.
The TRUTH is LIBERATING!
Now the documentary that we watched was mostly just a guy talking about all the life changing FACTS,
and then there was a 3 minute clip of what it's like on ALL farms -
do not be deluded enough to believe that your meat comes from a happy,
friendly farm, because that's a crock, and in the end they still die,
whether or not they've suffered!
And what you will discover is that it's not JUST about animal enslavement, torture and slaughter, it goes way beyond that.
There are other documentaries that I have not watched,
but that are very popular,
like: Cowspiracy, Forks over Knives and many many others focusing on veganism from different angles like,
health, animal cruelty, and the environment,
trying to get the message out their.
The media doesn't cover the TRUTH because it's owned by the meat and dairy industry,
so if you want real information then you have to go looking for it,
this is what I've realised.
Anyway, within the last 50 days, we are all looking and feeling healthier.
We are certainly much much happier knowing that nothing is suffering and dying because of us,
and best of all we have discovered that there is a plant based option for literally EVERYTHING you can think of!
You name it and there it is :)
So there are no more excuses!
My family and I eat filling, delicious, healthy food every single day, and in my 33 years I have still never eaten a salad :D
I have included links to all the documentaries I know of that directly encourage veganism, to those that touch on it briefly,
and even those that explain why it's so difficult to get the message out there.
Cowspiracy - There is a longer version on YT but I think this shorter version covers it.
101 Reasons to go vegan - Which is the one I watched.
Also if you haven't already seen Before the Flood with Leonardo di Caprio from National Geographic then definitely watch that.
There will be more posts to come that will cover things like - what we eat and how we deal with negative comments,
and also what it's like to live as a vegan in a meat eating world.
